Genesis 7:11

Matthew's Bible 1537

In the .vi. hundred yere of Noes lyfe, in the seconde moneth, in the .xvij. daye of the moneth, that same day were al the founteynes of the great depe broken vp, & the wyndowes of heauen were opened,

Bringe euerye Tithe into my barne, that there maye be meat in myne house: and proue me withall (sayeth the Lorde of hostes) yf I will not open the windowes of heauen vnto you, and poure you out a blessynge with plenteousnesse.

As soone as he letteth hys voyce be hearde, the waters in the ayre waxe fearce: He draweth vp the cloudes from the endes of the earthe. He turneth the lyghtenynges to rayne, he bryngeth the wyndes oute of theyr secrete places.

Feare ye not me, sayeth the Lorde? Are ye not ashamed, to loke me in the face? which bynde the sea wyth the sande, so that it can not passe hys boundes: For thoughe it rage, yet can it do nothynge, and thoughe the waues thereof do swell, yet maye they not go ouer.

And the Lorde aunswered the man of God & sayd: though the Lorde made wyndowes in heauen, yet wolde thys not be. And the other sayde: Beholde, thou shalt se it with thyne eyes, and shalt not eate thereof.

For thus sayeth the Lord God: when I make the a desolate cytye (as other cities be, that no man dwell in) and when I brynge the depe vpon the, that greate waters maye couer the:

He gathereth the waters together as it were in a bottell, and layeth vp the depe in secret.

Then a great Lorde on whose hande the kyng leaned, aunswered the man of God and sayde, though the Lorde woulde make wyndowes in heauen, yet wolde not thys be. And he sayde agayne: Behold, thou shalt se it with thyne eyes and shalte not eate thereof.

Than God made the fyrmament, and parted the waters whyche were vnder the fyrmament, from the waters that were aboue the fyrmament: And it was so.

For as in the dayes before the floude, they did eate & drinke, mary and were maried, euen vnto the daye that Noe entred into the shippe,

The earthe shall geue a greate cracke, it shall haue a sore ruyne, & taken an horrible fall.

Thou diggest vp welles and brokes, thou dryest vp myghty waters.

For behold, I wyll bryng in a floud of water vpon the erth to destroye al flesh from vnder heauen, wherin breth of lyf is: so that all that is in the erth shal perysh.

Wyth the ryuer of water parteth he a sunder the straunge people, that knoweth no good neyghbourheade: suche as are rude, vnmanerly and boyustours.

When they shal say peace and no daunger, then commeth on them soden destruccion, as the trauaylynge of a woman wyth chyld, and they shal not escape.

by the which thinges, the worlde that then was, perished ouer flowen with the water.

and Noe was .vi. hundred yere olde, when the floud of water came vpon the erth:

Beholde, yf he witholde the waters, they drye vp: Yf he let them go, they destroye the earth.

Camest thou euer into the grounde of the sea: or haste thou walked in the lowe corners of the depe?

Thorow hys wysdome the deapthes breake vp, and the cloudes droppe downe of the dewe.

Who so escapeth the terrible crye, shal fal into the pyt. And yf he come out of the pit, he shalbe taken with the snare. For the wyndowes aboue shalbe opened, and the foundacion of the earth shall moue.

So by the .xxvij. day of the second moneth the earth was drye.

who numbreth the cloudes in wysdome? who stylleth the vehement waters of heauen?
