And the messengers came againe to Iacob sayinge: we came vnto thi brother Esau, & he commeth agaynst the & .iiij. hundred men wyth him.

Iacob lift vp hys eyes & sawe hys brother Esau come, & wyth hym .iiij. hundred men. And he deuided the chyldren vnto Lea and vnto Rahell, and vnto the two maydens.

Yea lyke as when a man runneth from a lyon, and a beer meteth with him: or when he commeth into the house, and leaneth hys hande vpon the wall, a serpent diteth hym.

Deliuer me from the handes of my brother Esau: for I feare hym: least he wyll come and smyte the mother wyth the chyldren.

& sayd: If Esau come to the one part & smite it the other maye saue it selfe.

Then was Iacob greatly afrayed, & wyste not whych way to turne him selfe, and deuided the people that was wyth hym, and the shepe, oxen, & camels, into .ij. companyes,

& caried away al his cattel & al his substaunce which he had gotten in Mesopotamia, for to go to Isaac his father vnto the land of Canaan.

And he sayed: what meanest thou wt all the drooues which I mette. And he answered: to fynd grace in the syghte of my Lorde.

And Esau said: let me yet leaue some of my folke with the. And he sayed: what neadeth it? let me find grace in the syght of my Lord.

And Sichem sayed vnto hyr father & hyr brethren: lette me fynde grace in your eyes, & whatsoeuer ye appoint me, that wyl I gyue.

And they answered: Thou haste saued our lyues. Let vs fynde grace in the syghte of my Lord, and let vs be Pharaos seruauntes.

And Ruth the Moabitesse sayd vnto Noemi, let me go to the felde and lease and gather eares, after whomsoeuer I fynde grace in his syghte. And she sayde vnto her: go my doughter.

Then she sayd vnto him: let me finde fauoure in thy sighte my Lorde, for thou hast comforted me, & hast spoken hertely vnto thy maide, which yet can not be like vnto one of thy maides.

Then she sayd: let thyne handmayde fynd grace in thy sight. And so the woman wente her waye, and dyd eate, and loked no more so sadde.
