Matthew's Bible 1537

The Lorde God of heauen whyche toke me from my fathers house and from the lande where I was borne, & whych spake vnto me and sware vnto me sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue thys lande, he shal sende hys angell before the that thou mayste take a wyfe vnto my sonne from thence.

The Aungel of the Lorde pytcheth hys tente rounde aboute hym that feare hym, & delyuereth them.

And I wyll sende an angell before the, & wyll cast out the Cananytes, the Amorytes, the Hethites, the Pherezites, the Heuites, & the Iebusytes:

for all the Lande whyche thou seest, wyl I gyue vnto the, & to thy sede for euer.

Thou leadest me with thy counsayll, and afterwarde receyuest me vnto glory.

I wyl enforme the, and shew the the waie wherin thou shalt go I wyll fasten myne eyes vpon the.

Remember Abraham, Isaac and Israel thy seruauntes, to whom thou sworest by thyne owne selfe & saidest vnto them. I wyll multiplye youre seed as the starres of heauen, and all thys lande which I haue sayd, I wyll geue vnto youre seede: and they shal enheret it for euer

And that same daye the Lorde made a couenaunte with Abram sayinge: vnto thy seed wyl I geue this land, from the riuer of Egypt, euen vnto the greate ryuer Euphrates,

And the same houre was there a greate earth quake, and the tenth parte of the cytye fell, and in the earth quake were slayne names of men seuen thousande, and the remnaunte were feared, and gaue glorye to GOD of heauen.

By fayth he remoued into the lande that was promysed hym, as into a straunge countreye, and dwelte in tabernacles: and so dyd Isaac and Iacob, heyres wyth hym of the same promes.

and he gaue him none inheritaunce in it, no not the bredeth of a fote: but promised that he would geue it to hym to possesse, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no chylde.

In the dayes of these kinges shall the God of heauen set vp an euerlastynge kyngdome whiche shall not peryshe, and hys kyngdome shall not be geuen ouer to another people: yea the same shal breake and destroy al these kingdomes, but it shall endure foreuer.

O prayse the Lorde ye aungels of his, ye that be myghty in strength fulfyllynge hys commaundement that men may here the voice of hys wordes.

Be strong and bolde: for vnto thys people shalt thou deuyde the land which I sware vnto theyr fathers to geue them.

And the Lorde sayed vnto him. This is the laud which I sware vnto Abraham, Isaac, and Iacob sayinge: I wyll giue it to thy sede. I haue shewed it the before thyne eyes: but thou shalt not goo ouer thyther.

Beholde, I haue sett the land before you: goo in therfore & possess the land whiche the Lorde sware vnto youre fathers Abraham, Isaac and Iacob, to geue vnto them and their seade after them.

None of the men that came out of Egypte from twenty yere olde and aboue, shal se the lande whych I sware vnto Abraham, Isaac and Iacob, because they haue not contynually folowed me:

come into the land ouer which I lyfted mine hande to make you dwel therin, saue Caleb the sonne of Iephune, and Iosua the sonne of Nun.

because the Lorde was not able to brynge in thys people in to the land which he sware vnto them, therfore he slewe them in the wyldernesse.

When the Lord hath brought the into the lande of the Cananytes, Hethites, Amorites Heuytes & Iebusites, whiche he sware vnto thy fathers that he wolde geue the a lande where in mylcke & hony floweth, then se that thou kepe this seruice in thys same moneth.

And the Lorde appeared vnto hym the same nyght, & sayd: I am the God of Abraham thy father, feare not for I am wyth the, and wyll blesse the, and multiply thy sede for my seruaunt Abrahams sake.

And I wyl geue vnto the and to thy seed after the, the lande where in thou arte a straunger: Euen all the lande of Canaan, for an euerlastynge possession & wyl be their God.

He answered them: I am an Ebreue, and I feare the Lorde God of heauen, whych made both the sea & drye lande.

In their troubles he forsoke them not, but the aungel that went forthe from his presence delyuered them. Of very loue & kindnesse that he had vnto them, redemed he them. He hath borne them, and caryed them vp euer, sence the worlde beganne.

Thus sayth Cyrus the king of Persia: The Lord God of heauen hath geuen me al the kingdomes in the land & hath commaunded me to buylde him an house at Ierusalem in Iuda.

And the angell of the Lorde came vp from Galgall to Bocim, and sayde, I broughte you oute of Egypt and haue brought you vnto the lande whiche I sware vnto your fathers. And I sayde that I wolde neuer breake myne appoyntment wyth you,

And the Angell of the lord found her besyde a fountayn of water in the wildernes: euen by a well in the way to Sur.

And God herde the voice of the chyld. And the angel of god called Hagar out of heauen and sayd vnto her: What ayleth the Hagar? Feare not, for god hath herde the voyce of the chyld where he lyeth.

Than the angell of the Lorde called vnto him from heauen sayinge: Abraham Abraham? And he answered: here am I.

that I may make the swere by the Lord that is God of heauen & God of the erth, that thou shalt not take a wyfe vnto my sonne, of the daughters of the Canaanytes, among whych I dwel.

And he sayed vnto me: The Lorde before whome I walke wyll send hys angell wyth the, and prospere thy iorney that thou shalte take a wife for my sonne, of my kinred, & of my fathers house.

haue I conceyued all thys people, or haue I begotte them, that thou shouldest saye vnto me, carye them in thy bosome (as a nurse beareth the suckyng chyld) vnto the land whych thou swarest vnto their fathers?

But I toke youre father Abraham from the other syde of the floude, and brought hym into the lande of Canaan, & multyplyed hys seede, and gaue hym Isaac

O geue thankes vnto the God of heauen, for his mercy endureth for euer.
