And then Abraham buryed Sara hys wyfe in the double caue of the felde that lyeth before Mamre, otherwyse called Ebron in the land of Canaan.

Then Abram toke downe his tent & went & dwelled in the okegroue of Mamre which is in Hebron, and buylded there an aulter vnto the Lorde.

And to the sonnes of Aaron they gaue the Franchesed cytyes, Hebron and Lobnach, wyth theyr Suburbes: and Iathyr and Ethemoa wyth theyr Suburbes:

And Iuda went vnto the Cananites that dwelt in Hebron, whiche before tyme was called Karyath Arbe. And slewe Sesai, Ahiman and Thalmai.

Then deuout men dressed Stephan, & made great lamentation ouer hym.

The Iewes then which were with her in the house and comforted her, when they sawe Mary, that she arose vp hastely, and went out, and folowed her, saiynge: She goeth vnto the graue, to wepe there.

And therfore, thus sayeth the Lorde agaynst Iehoakim, the sonne of Iosiah kynge of Iuda: They shall not mourne for hym (as they vse to do) alas brother, alas syster: Nether shall they saye vnto hym: Alas syre, alas for that noble prynce.

Mourne not ouer the deed, & be not wo for them, but be sory for hym that departeth awaye: for he commeth not agayne, and seeth his natyue countre no more.

And Ieremiah lamented Iosiah, and all syngynge men and singing wemen speake of Iosiah to this day, & made it an ordinaunce in Israell: and they be written in lamentacions.

In Hebron he raygned ouer Iuda seuen yere & syxe monethes. And in Ierusalem he raygned thyrtye & thre yeares ouer all Israell and Iuda.

And so all the elders of Israell came to the kynge to Hebron. And Kynge Dauid made a couenaunt wyth them in Hebron before the Lord. And they anoynted Dauid Kynge ouer Israell.

And the tyme whiche Dauid raygned in Hebron ouer the house of Iuda, was .vij. yere & syxe monethes.

And Dauid sang thys song of mourning ouer Saule and ouer Ionathas hys sonne,

And they mourned, wepte & fasted vntyll euen, for Saul and Ionathas hys sonne, & for the people of the Lorde, and for the house of Israel, because they were ouerthrowen with the swerde.

Samuel was then deade, and all Israel had lamented hym & buryed hym in Ramath hys owne cytye. And Saul had put the wemen that had spyrytes of prophesye & the Sorcerers oute of the lande.

For as longe as the sonne of Isai lyueth vpon the earth, thou shalt not be stabylyshed, nor yet thy kyngdome, wherfore now sende and fet him vnto me, for he is the child of the death.

And they apoynted Kedes in Galile, in mount Nephthali, and Sychem in mount Ephraim, and kariatharbe, whiche is Hebron, in the mountaines of Iuda.

& toke it, and the kinge therof and al the tounes that pertained therto. And smote them wyth the edge of the swerde, and vtterly destroyed al the soules that were therin, and let nought remayne. And as he dyd to Hebron, so he dyd to Dabir and the King therof, and as he dyd to Libna and her Kynge.

And the children of Israell wepte for Moses in the feylde of Moab .xxx. dayes. And the dayes of wepynge and mournyng for Moses were ended.

And Moses and Eleazar came downe out of the mounte. And all the house of Israell mourned for Aaron .xxx. dayes.

& they ascended vnto the south & came vnto Hebron, where Ahiman was & Sesai and Thalmani the sonnes of Enacke. Hebron was bylt .vij. yere before Zoan in Egypt.

And when they came to the felde of Atad beyonde Iordane, there they made great & exceadyng sore lamentacion. And he mourned for his father .vij. daies.

And Esau hated Iacob, bicause of the blessyng that hys father blessed hym with all, & sayed in hys hert. The dayes of my fathers sorowes are at hand, for I wyll slea my brother Iacob.

Sara was an hundred and .xxvij. yere old (for so long lyued she)

Then Isaac broughte hir into hys mother Saras tente, and toke Rebecca, and she became hys wyfe. & he loued hir: & so was Isaac comforted ouer hys mother.

Then Iacob went vnto Isaac his father to Mamre a principal city, otherwise called Hebron: where Abraham & Isaac soieourned as straungers.

And he sayde vnto hym: go & see whether it be well wyth thy brethren and the shepe, and brynge me worde agayne. And sent hym out of the vale of Hebron, for to go to Sichem.

And vnto Caleb the sonne of Iephune was there a parte geuen amonge the children of Iuda, by the mouthe of the Lord to Iosua, euen the cyty of Kariatharbe father of Enack whyche cytye is called Hebron.

Humatah, & kariatharbe: which is Hebron and Zior, nyne cities with their villages.

And they gaue them Kariath Arbe of the father of Enack, whych is Hebron, in the hyll countrey of Iuda, wyth the suburbes of the same rounde about it.

And the children of Iuda that were without in the tounes of theyr lande, dwelte some at Kariath Arbe, & in the vyllages there of, and at Dibon, and in the vyllages there of:

And Ioseph fell vpon his fathers face, & wepte vpon him, and kyssed hym.

And then Samuel dyed, and all Israel gathered together and lamented hym and buryed him in his owne house at Ramath. And Dauid arose and gat hym to the wildernesse of Pharan.
