Drawe water nowe agaynst thou be beseged, make vp thy strong holdes, go into the claye, tempre the morter, make stronge bricke,

To a people that is euer defyinge me to my face. They make their oblacyons in gardens, and their smoke vpon aulters of brycke,

Well, I shall tell you how I wyl do with my vineyarde: I will take the hedge from it, that it maye perishe, & breake doune the wall, that it maye be troden vnder fote.

Then sayde I thus in my herte: Now go to, I will take myne ease and haue good dayes. But lo, that was vanitie also:

if they entise the, & say: come with vs, let vs leye wayte for bloud, and lurke preuely for the innocent without a cause:

They haue deuysed myschefe, and communed amonge them selues, how they may laye snares: tush (saye they) who shall se them?

Come on, let vs descende, and myngle theyr tonge euen there, that one vnderstande not what another sayeth.

And they sayed come on, let vs builde a citye & a tower, that the toppe may reach vnto heuen. And let vs make vs a name for peraduenture we shall be scatered abrod ouer al the erth.
