yea euen in the fyrst yeare of his raygne, I Daniel desyred to knowe the yearly nombre oute of the bokes, whereof the Lorde spake vnto Ieremye the Prophete: that Ierusalem shoulde lye waste .lxx. yeares:

But thus sayeth the Lorde: When ye haue fulfylled .lxx. yeares at Babylon, I wil bring you home, & of myne owne goodnes I wyll carye you hyther agayne vnto this place.

to fullfyll the worde of the Lorde by the mouthe of Ieremiah, vntyll the lande had her pleasure of her Sabothes: for as longe as she laye desolate, she kepte Saboth vntyll she had fullfylled .lxx. yeres.

Happye is he that readeth, and they that heare the wordes of the prophecye, and kepe those thynges which are wrytten therein. For the tyme is at hande.

Speake vnto all the people of the land, & to the priestes, and saye: when ye fasted and mourneth in the .v. & .vij. moneth (now this .lxx. yeares) dyd ye fast vnto me?

In the fyrste yeare of Cyrus king of Persia (that the word of the lord spoken by the mouth of Ieremy mighte be fulfylled) the Lord stered vp the sprete of Cyrus kynge of Persia, that he caused it be proclamed thorowout al his empyre, ye and by wrytinge also, saying:

Therfore shall Syon (for youre sakes) be plowed lyke a felde: Ierusalem shalbe come an heape of stones, and the hyll of the temple shalbe turned to an hye wodde.

And all people shall serue hym, and hys sonne, and hys chyldes chyldren, vntyll the tyme of the same lande become also: yea many people & greate Kynges shall serue hym.

But fyrst the cytie of Ierusalem, and all the cytyes of Iuda, theyr kinges and princes to make them desolate, waste, despised & cursed according as it is come to passe this day.

And as for the voyce of myrth and gladnesse of the cytyes of Iuda, and Ierusalem the voyce of the brydegrome & of the bryde: I wil make them ceasse, for the lande shall be desolate.

The cytyes of thy Sanctuary lye waste, Sion is a wildernesse, and Ierusalem a deserte.

Tyll I come, geue attendaunce to reading to exhortacyon and to doctryne.

The chamberlayne aunswered Phylippe, and sayed: I pray the of whom speaketh the Prophete this? of him selfe, or of some other man?

Moreouer, when ye se the abhomynacyon that betokeneth desolacion, whereof is spoken by Daniel the Prophet, stande where it oughte not, let hym that readeth vnderstand, then let them that be in Iurye, fle to the mountaynes.

When ye therfore shall se the abhomination that betokeneth desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophete, stande in the holye place (let hym that readeth it, vnderstande it)

Aleph. Alas, how sytteth the citie so desolate, that some tyme was full of people? How is she become lyke a wedowe, whiche was the ladye of all nacyons? How is she brought vnder trybute, that ruled all landes.

then wyll I do to this house, as I dyd vnto Siloh, and wil make this cytie to be abhorred of all the people of the earth.

In thy testomonyes is my delite, they are my councelers.

Micheah the Morasthite, which was a Prophet vnder Ezekiah kynge of Iuda, spake to all the people of Iuda: Thus sayeth the Lorde of Hostes: Syon shalbe plowed lyke a felde, Ierusalem shalbe an heape of stones, and the hyll of the Lordes house shalbe turned to an hye wood.

These are the Sermons of Ieremy the sonne of Helkiah the prieste, one of them that dwelt at Anathoth in the land of Beniamin:

and I turned me vnto god the Lorde, for to praye and make myne intercession, with fastinge, sackcloth & ashes,

Then the Lordes aungell gaue aunswere, and sayde: O Lorde of hostes, howe longe wylte thou be vnmercyfull to Ierusalem and to the cytyes of Iuda, wyth whom thou hast bene dyspleased nowe these .lxx. yeares.

so that in .xl. yeares there shall no fote of man walcke there, neyther fote of cattell go there, neyther shall it be inhabyted.
