Nabuchodonosor the kynge caused a golden Image to be made whiche was .lx. cubytes hye, & sixe cubytes thycke. This he made to be set vp in the feld of Dura in the lande of Babylon,

Wo vnto hym, that sayeth to a pece of woode: aryse, & to a domme stone: stande vp. For what instruccyon maye suche one geue? Beholde it is layed ouer wyth gold and siluer and there is no breth in it.

How can a man make those his goddes, which are not able to be goddes.

Ye fooles (no doute) wyll take out syluer & golde oute of youre purses, and weye it, and hyre a gold smith to make a God of it, that men maye knele downe & worshippe it.

They haue ordeyned kinges, but not thorowe me: they haue made princes, and I must not know of it. Of their siluer and golde haue they made them Images, to bringe them selues to destruccion.

Moreouer ye se & heare that not alone at Ephesus, but almoste thorough out al Asia, this Paule hath persuaded and turned away muche people: saying that they be not Goddes, whiche are made wyth handes.

For as muche then as we are the generacyon of God, we ought not to thinke that the God hede is lyke vnto golde, syluer, or stone grauen by crafte and ymagynacyon of man.

Then then, shall man caste awaye hys Goddes of syluer and golde (whiche he neuerthelesse had made to honoure them) vnto Moles and Backes:

As for the ymages of the Heathen, they are but siluer and golde, the worcke of mens handes.

Whervpon the kynge toke councell, and made two calues of golde and sayde vnto the people: ye shall not neade to go any more to Ierusalem. Beholde youre Goddes Israel which brought you out of the lande of Egypte.

but hast magnyfyed thy selfe aboue the Lorde of heauen, so that the vessels of hys house were broughte before the, that thou, and thy Lordes, with thy quene and concubynes, myght drincke wyne thereoute: And hast praysed the Idoles of syluer and golde, copper and yron, of wode and stone: As for the God in whose hande consysteth thy breth and all thy wayes: thou haste not loaued hym.

So the kynge made Daniel a greate man, and gaue hym many & greate gyftes. He made hym ruler of all the countrees of Babylon, and Lorde of all the nobles, that were at Babylon.

namelye, woode, syluer, whiche is brought oute of Tharsis, and beaten to plates: and golde from Ophir, a worcke that is made with the hande of the craftesmen and the caster, clothed with yelowe sylcke & scarlet: euen so is the worcke of theyr wyse men altogether.

Moreouer yf ye destroye the syluer worckes of youre Idoles, and caste awaye the golden coppes that ye deckte them wythall (as fylthynes) & saye get you hence:

The Images of their Gods thou shalt burne wyth fire, and se that thou couet not the syluer or golde that is on them nor take it vnto the, least thou be snared therwyth. For it is an abhomination vnto the lord thy God.

And Moses went agayne vnto the Lorde & sayd: Oh, thys people haue synned a great synne & haue made them a god of gold:

Ye shal not make therfore with me goddes of syluer nor goddes of golde: in no wise shal ye do it.

And the remnaunt of the men which were not kylled by these plages, repented not of the dedes of their handes, that they should not worship deuyls, and Images of gold, and syluer, and brasse, and stone, and of wood, whych neyther can se, neyther heare, neyther go.

So the kynge promoted Sidrach, Misach, and Abednago, in the land of Babylon.

In the tyme of Ahasuerus which raygned from Iudia vnto Ethiophia ouer an hundred & seuen and twentye landes,

Then Nabuchodonosor spake vnto them, and sayde: what? O Sidrach Misach and Abednago, wyll not ye serue my Goddes, nor bowe youre selues to the golden Image, that I haue set vp?

They droncke wyne, and praysed theyr Idoles of golde, syluer, copper, yron woodde and stone.

But this woulde she not knowe, where as I yet gaue her corne, wyne, oyle, syluer & gold, whiche she hath hangeth vpon Baal.

Now Daniel intreated the kynge so: Sidrach, Misach and Abednago, so that he made them rulers ouer all the offyces in the lande of Babylon: But Danyel hymselfe remayned styll in the courte by the kynge.
