And ther was a certaine man called Simon, which before tyme in the same citye, vsed wytchcraft and bewitched the people of Samarye, sayinge that he was a man that coulde do greate thinges.

When they had gone thorowout the yle vnto the citie of Paphos, they founde a certayne sorcerer, a false Prophet which was a Iewe named Bariesu,

Before these dayes rose vp one Theudas bostynge him selfe: to whom resorted a numbre of men, aboute a foure hundred which was slaine, and they all which beleued him: were scatred abroade, & brought to nought.

He that speaketh of him selfe, seketh his owne prayse. But he that seketh his prayse that sent him, the same is true and no vnrightuousnes is in him.

For without shal be dogges & inchaunters, & whoremongers, and murtherers & Idolaters and whosoeuer loueth or maketh leasynges.

For when they haue spoken the swellinge wordes of vanitie, they begyle with wantonnes thorowe the lustes of the fleshe, them that were cleane escaped, but nowe are wrapped in errours.

hauynge a simylytude of Godly lyuynge, but haue denyed the power thereof: and suche abhorre.

For the men shall be louers of theyr owne selues coueteous, bosters, proude, cursed speakers, dysobedyent to father and mother, vnthankefull, vnholye,

whiche is an aduersarye, and is exalted aboue all that is called God, or that is worshypped: so that he shall sytte as God in the temple of God, and shewe hym selfe as God.

so that the sorcerers could not stande before Moses, for there were botches vpon the enchaunters, and vpon all the Epyptians.

But Elymas the sorcerer (for so was hys name by interpretacyon) withstode them, & sought to turne awaye the ruler from the faith.
