Then went the Kynge and hys men to Ierusalem, vnto the Iebusytes the enhabyters of the lande. And they sayde vnto Dauid: excepte thou take awaye the blynde & the lame thou shalt not come in hyther, meanyng therby that Dauid shulde not haue come in thyther.

The children of Iuda fought agaynst Ierusalem, and toke it, & smote it wyth the edge of the swerde, and set the cyty on fyre.

For though ye had slayne the whole hoste of the Caldees, that besege you, and euery one of the slayne laye in his tente, yet should they stande vp, and set fyre vpon this cytie.

Thys Melchysedech, kynge of Salem (whiche beynge prieste of the moost hye God met Abraham, as he returned agayne from the slaughter of the kynges, & blessed him:

Then Melchisedech kynge of Salem brought forth breade & wine. And he beynge the prieste of the moste hyghest God,

Wherfore Adonizedec kyng of Ierusalem sent vnto Hoham kynge of Hebron, and vnto Pharam kynge of Ierimoth, and vnto Iaphia kynge of Lachis, and vnto Dabir kinge of Eglon sayinge:

Wyth thy helpe I wyll runne thorow an Hoste of men, and by the ayde of my God will springe ouer a walle.

A wyse man wynneth the citye of the mighty, and as for strength that they trust in, he bryngeth it downe.

Beholde (sayeth the Lorde) I will come vpon you, that dwell in the valleyes, rockes & feldes, & saye: Tush: who will make vs afrayed? or who will come into oure houses?
