If anye man longe after lyfe, and loueth to se good dayes, let him refrayne his tonge from euil, & his lippes that they speake not gyle.

Yf anye man amonge you seme deuoute, & refrayne not his tonge, but deceyue his owne hert: thys mannes deuocyon is in vayne.

Wherfore laye a syde all malycyousnes, and all gyle, and dyssymulacyon, and enuye, and all backbytynge:

& in their mouthes was founde no gyle. For they are without spot before the trone of God.

For they are lyfe vnto all those that fynde them, and health vnto all their bodyes.

She is a tree of lyfe to them that laye holde vpon her, and blessed are they that kepe her fast.

For whosoeuer wil saue his lyfe. shall lowse it. But whosoeuer shal lowse his life for my sake and the gospels: the same shall saue it.

But when he foloweth his fathers generacion, he shall neuer se light any more.

Neuerthelesse I beleue verelye to se the goodnesse of the Lorde in the lande of the lyuynge.

Yea he hath delyuered my soule from destruccyon, and my lyfe, that it seeth the lyght.

My dayes haue bene more swyfte then a runner: they are gone sodenly, and haue sene no good thynge.

For it is not a vayne worde vnto you: but it is youre lyfe, & thorow thys worde ye shall prolonge youre dayes in the lande whither ye go ouer Iordan to conquere it.

So I thought in my hert, to withdrawe my flesh from wyne, to apply my mynde vnto wysdome, & to comprehende folishnes vntill the time that (among all the thinges which are vnder the sunne) I might se what were best for men to do, so long as they lyue vnder heauen.

That we myght se the pleasure of thy chosen, that we myght reioyse in the gladnesse of thy people, and geue thanckes with thine enherytaunce.

Sathan answered the Lorde, and sayde: Skynne for skynne? yee a man will geue all that euer he hath, for his lyfe.
