For what does the scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was counted to him for righteousness.

And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

And that was counted to him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.

To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

And when those came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny.

And have you not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected has become the head of the corner:

For the scripture says, Whoever believes in him shall not be ashamed.

God has not cast away his people whom he knew beforehand. Do you not know what the scripture says of Elijah? How he makes intercession to God against Israel, saying,

And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed to them also:

But to one who does not work, but believes in him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcision only, or also upon the uncircumcision? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness.

For the scripture says to Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised you up, that I might show my power in you, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.

And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed to him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us is inclined to envy?
