So David reigned over all Israel, and executed judgment and justice among all his people.

Be it known now to the king, that, if this city be built, and the walls set up again, then will they not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so you shall hurt the revenue of the kings.

There have been mighty kings also over Jerusalem, which have ruled over all countries beyond the river; and toll, tribute, and custom, was paid to them.

Moreover I make a decree what you shall do for the elders of these Jews for the building of this house of God: that of the king’s goods, even from the tribute beyond the river, immediately expenses be given to these men, that they be not hindered.

There were also some that said, We have borrowed money for the king’s tribute on our lands and vineyards.

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

Or he that exhorts, in exhortation: he that gives, let him do it with sincerity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Therefore you must be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience’ sake.

Pay therefore to all their dues: taxes to whom taxes are due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.
