And honey, and butter, and sheep, and cheese from cows, for David, and for the people that were with him, to eat: for they said, The people are hungry, and weary, and thirsty, in the wilderness.

Let us make a little chamber, I pray you, on the wall; and let us set for him there a bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick: and it shall be, when he comes to us, that he shall turn in there.

​Blessed is he that considers the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.

She stretches out her hand to the poor; yea, she reaches forth her hands to the needy.

For I was hungry, and you gave me food: I was thirsty, and you gave me drink: I was a stranger, and you took me in:

And when he looked at him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and your gifts have come up for a memorial before God.

And laid them down at the apostles’ feet: and distribution was made to everyone according as he had need.

Or he that exhorts, in exhortation: he that gives, let him do it with sincerity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

I plead with you, brethren, (you know the house of Stephanas, that it is the first fruits of Achaia, and that they have devoted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)

For concerning the ministry to the saints, it is unnecessary for me to write to you:

For the administration of this service not only supplies the need of the saints, but is abundant also by many thanksgivings to God;

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good to all men, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

A leader then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, watchful, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

Well reported of for good works; if she has brought up children, if she has lodged strangers, if she has washed the saints’ feet, if she has relieved the afflicted, if she has diligently pursued every good work.

But a lover of hospitality, a lover of those who are good, sober, just, holy, temperate;

And let our brethren also learn to maintain good works for those things that are necessary, that they may not be unfruitful.

For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints are refreshed by you, brother.

But to do good and to share do not forget: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Do not be forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.

For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labor of love, which you have shown toward his name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.

But he who has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his feelings of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?

Beloved, you do faithfully whatever you do for the brethren, and for strangers;
