Because your rage against me and your tumult has come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

When Pilate saw that he could not prevail at all, but that rather a tumult was arising, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see to it yourselves.

And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates tore off their clothes, and commanded to beat them.

But the Jews who did not believe, moved with envy, took to them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city in an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and brought him out of the temple: and immediately the doors were shut.

And they gave him audience until this word, and then lifted up their voices, and said, Take away such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live.

And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing that Paul would be pulled in pieces by them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted up their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.
