And the man said to Joab, Though I should receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, yet would I not put forth my hand against the king’s son: for in our hearing the king instructed you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, Beware that none touch the young man Absalom.

And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabesh-gilead were those who buried Saul.

So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made an alliance with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.

To this day they do according to the former manners: they do not fear the LORD, neither do they according to their statutes, or according to their ordinances, or according to the law and commandment which the LORD commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel;

And they have repaid me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly troubled: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

If I have repaid evil to him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is my enemy:)

My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.

My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

But you have cast off and abhorred, you have been angry with your anointed.

Your throne is established of old: you are from everlasting.

I counsel you to keep the king’s commandment, and that because of the oath of God.

O LORD, are not your eyes upon the truth? you have struck them, but they have not grieved; you have consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hands to trouble some of those in the church.

And the king said to the footmen that stood around him, Turn, and slay the priests of the LORD; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew when he fled, and did not reveal it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of the LORD.

Behold, this day your eyes have seen how the LORD had delivered you today into my hand in the cave: and some told me to kill you: but my eye spared you; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’S anointed.
