For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffs at him.

The proud have hid a snare for me, and cords; they have spread a net by the wayside; they have set traps for me. Selah.

Like a lion that is greedy of his prey, and like a young lion lurking in secret places.

All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like you, who delivers the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that plunders him?

The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to throw down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conduct.

For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker: but he who honors him has mercy on the poor.

He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that gives to the rich, shall surely come to want.

As a roaring lion, and a wandering bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.

What do you mean that you beat my people to pieces, and grind the faces of the poor? says the Lord GOD of hosts.

The schemes also of the selfish person are evil: he devises wicked devices to destroy the poor with lying words, even when the needy speaks right.

For among my people are found wicked men: they lie in wait, as he that sets snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

He was to me like a bear lying in wait, and like a lion in secret places.

The people of the land have used oppression, and committed robbery, and have troubled the poor and needy: yea, they have oppressed the stranger wrongfully.

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he has taken nothing?

The good man has perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

They take up all of them with the hook, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their dragnet: therefore they rejoice and are glad.

You struck through with his rods the chief of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.

There is a voice of the howling of the shepherds; for their glory is destroyed: a voice of the roaring of young lions; for the pride of Jordan is laid waste.

But he who is a hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming, and leaves the sheep, and flees: and the wolf catches them, and scatters the sheep.

But do not yield to them: for there lie in wait for him more than forty men of them, who have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from you.
