And he answered, You shall not strike them: would you strike those whom you have taken captive with your sword and with your bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

And the men which were mentioned by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the spoil clothed all that were naked among them, and dressed them, and shod them, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their people: then they returned to Samaria.

Though it be granted him to be in safety, which sustains him; yet his eyes are upon their ways.

Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles:

Do not say, I will do so to him as he has done to me: I will repay the man according to his work.

As he that takes away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon soda, so is he that sings songs to a heavy heart.

But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you, and persecute you;

And now, behold, I know well that you shall surely be king, and that the kingdom of Israel shall be established in your hand.
