Watch your foot when you go to the house of God, and be more ready to hear than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they do not consider that they do evil.
He that kills an ox is as if he slew a man; he that sacrifices a lamb, as if he cut off a dog’s neck; he that offers an offering, as if he offered swine’s blood; he that burns incense, as if he blessed an idol. Yea, they have chosen their own ways, and their soul delights in their abominations.
For what purpose does incense come to me from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet to me.
And Moses was very angry, and said unto the LORD, Do not respect their offering: I have not taken one donkey from them, neither have I hurt one of them.
But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for you neither go in yourselves, nor permit those who are entering to go in.
