Hear, O our God; for we are despised: and turn their reproach upon their own head, and give them for a prey in the land of captivity:

Reproach has broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

For the zeal of your house has consumed me; and the reproaches of those who reproached you have fallen upon me.

When pride comes, then comes shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.

A righteous man hates lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and comes to shame.

If you are insulted for the name of Christ, happy are you; for the spirit of glory and of God rests upon you: by them he is evil spoken of, but by you he is glorified.

In which they think it strange that you do not run with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:

Then Saul’s anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said to him, You son of the perverse rebellious woman, do I not know that you have chosen the son of Jesse to your own confusion, and to the confusion of your mother’s nakedness?
