And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than you: why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be taken first in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.

Hatred stirs up strife: but love covers all sins.

He who is slow to anger is of great understanding: but he who is hasty of spirit exalts folly.

A soft answer turns away wrath: but painful words stir up anger.

The way of the slothful man is as a hedge of thorns: but the way of the righteous is made plain.

The anger of a king is as messengers of death: but a wise man will pacify it.

A wayward man sows strife: and a whisperer separates best friends.

Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man you shall not go:

By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaks the bone.

As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.

He that is of a proud heart stirs up strife: but he that puts his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

An angry man stirs up strife, and a furious man abounds in transgression.

If the spirit of the ruler rises up against you, do not leave your place; for yielding pacifies great offenses.

Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
