There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he has neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labor; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither says he, For whom do I labor, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a hard toil.
The righteous perishes, and no man takes it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; perhaps there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.
Give, and it shall be given to you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your lap. For with the same measure that you use it shall be measured to you again.
