And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, Are you made one of the king’s counselors? cease; why should you be struck? Then the prophet ceased, and said, I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.

They would have none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof.

He who loves instruction loves knowledge: but he who hates reproof is stupid.

Correction is painful to him that forsakes the way: and he that hates reproof shall die.

He that refuses instruction despises his own soul: but he that hears reproof gets understanding.

He, that being often reproved hardens his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

She is a tree of life to those who lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that keeps her.

Take firm hold of instruction; do not let her go: keep her; for she is your life.

He taught me also, and said to me, Let your heart retain my words: keep my commandments, and live.

And say, How I have hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof;

I was almost in every evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Do not permit your mouth to cause your flesh to sin; neither say before the angel, that it was a mistake: why should God be angry at your voice, and destroy the work of your hands?

But he said, Yea rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God, and keep it.

See that you do not refuse him that speaks. For if they did not escape who refused him that spoke on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaks from heaven:

Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Where are you going? and where do you come from?
