Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

Therefore my heart shall lament like a harp for Moab, and my inward parts for Kir-haresh.

Look down from heaven, and behold from the habitation of your holiness and of your glory: where is your zeal and your strength, the pleading of your sympathy and of your mercies toward me? are they restrained?

For we are glad, when we are weak, and you are strong: and this also we desire, even your perfection.

You are not limited within us, but you are limited in your own affections.

And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, while he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him.

Now in the things which I write to you, behold, before God, I do not lie.

For you are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

My little children, for whom I labor painfully in birth again until Christ is formed in you,

If there is therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion,

For he longed for you all, and was full of heaviness, because you had heard that he had been sick.

Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand firm in the Lord, my dearly beloved.

For I want you to know what great anxiety I have for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, merciful compassion, kindness, humility of mind, meekness, longsuffering;

For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a covering for covetousness; God is witness:

So having strong affection for you, we were willing to have imparted to you not only the gospel of God, but also our own souls, because you were dear to us.

Greatly desiring to see you, being mindful of your tears, that I may be filled with joy;

Whom I have sent back: therefore receive him, that is, my own heart:

Yes, brother, let me have joy from you in the Lord: refresh my heart in the Lord.

But he who has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his feelings of compassion from him, how does the love of God dwell in him?
