God has not cast away his people whom he knew beforehand. Do you not know what the scripture says of Elijah? How he makes intercession to God against Israel, saying,

For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh:

I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

For I am in a dilemma between the two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more necessary for you.

For I want you to know what great anxiety I have for you, and for those at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh;

That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.
