The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; who says in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground?

Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

He slew of Edom in the valley of salt ten thousand, and took Selah by war, and called the name of it Joktheel until this day.

And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and struck down of the children of Seir ten thousand.

And ten thousand others left alive did the children of Judah take away captive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and threw them down from the top of the rock, so that they all were broken in pieces.

Though his excellence should mount up to the heavens, and his head reach to the clouds;

Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor is humility.

A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.

We have heard of the pride of Moab; he is very proud: even of his haughtiness, and his pride, and his anger: but his lies shall not be established.

Behold, I am against you, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, says the LORD; who say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?

Thus says the LORD; Do not deceive yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.

O you who dwell in Moab, leave the cities, and dwell in the rock, and be like the dove that makes her nest in the sides of the mouth of the pit.

Your dreadfulness has deceived you, and the pride of your heart, you who dwell in the openings in the rock, who hold the height of the hill: though you were to make your nest as high as the eagle, I will bring you down from there, says the LORD.

Why do you glory in the valleys, your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter? who trusted in her treasures, saying, Who shall come to me?

By the multitude of your merchandise they have filled the midst of you with violence, and you have sinned: therefore I will throw you as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy you, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

Though Edom says, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus says the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The land of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD has indignation for ever.
