And he said to Abram, Know with certainty that your descendents shall be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;

And they took their cattle, and their goods, which they had gotten in the land of Canaan, and came into Egypt, Jacob, and all his descendents with him:

His sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, and all his descendents brought he with him into Egypt.

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spoke to him, and he would not listen to our voice: how will he then be distressed, if we tell him that the child is dead?

And he said, When you do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then you shall kill him: but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.

And Pharaoh directed all his people, saying, Every son that is born you shall throw into the river, and every daughter you shall save alive.

Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years.

And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and were asked, Why have you not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and today, as beforehand?

We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic:

Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, unless you make yourself altogether a prince over us?

And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, Thus says your brother Israel, You know all the trouble that has befallen us:

And when we cried out unto the LORD, he heard our voice, and sent an angel, and has brought us forth out of Egypt: and, behold, we are in Kadesh, a city in the farthest part of your border:

So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,

The same dealt deceitfully with our kindred, and treated our fathers badly, so that they cast out their young children, in order that they might not live.

And the Egyptians treated us evil, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard labor:
