And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that you are God in Israel, and that I am your servant, and that I have done all these things at your word.
You shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of those who hate me;
Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken to you: behold, my Angel shall go before you: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them.
For that which befalls the sons of men befalls beasts; even one thing befalls them: as the one dies, so dies the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man has no pre-eminence over a beast: for all is vanity.
And what will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from afar? to whom will you flee for help? and where will you leave your treasures?
The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; he will no more take you away into captivity: he will visit your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; he will reveal your sins.
And if anyone would hurt them, fire proceeds out of their mouth, and devours their enemies: and if anyone would hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
