When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there had come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel.
But when Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, and Geshem the Arabian, heard it, they laughed us to scorn, and despised us, and said, What is this thing that you do? will you rebel against the king?
And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard of it, and all the heathen that were around us saw these things, they were brought very low in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was done by our God.
And Zedekiah the king said to Jeremiah, I am afraid of the Jews who have deserted to the Chaldeans, lest they deliver me into their hand, and they mock me.
Then Herod, when he saw that he was despised by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the region thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.
And when they had braided a crown of thorns, they put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
