Judah is a lion’s whelp: from the prey, my son, you are gone up: he stooped down, he lay down as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up?

Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:

For thus has the LORD spoken to me, Like the lion and the young lion roaring over his prey, when a multitude of shepherds is called out against him, he will not be afraid of their voice, nor humble himself because of their noise: so shall the LORD of hosts come down to fight for mount Zion, and for the hill thereof.

Their roaring shall be like a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and shall carry it away safely, and none shall deliver it.

The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

The lion has come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he has gone forth from his place to make your land desolate; and your cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

Israel is a scattered sheep; the lions have driven him away: first the king of Assyria has devoured him; and last this Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.

Behold, the king shall come up like a lion from the swelling of the Jordan to the habitation of the strong: but I will make them suddenly run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? for who is like me? and who will choose for me the time? and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?

Son of man, take up a lamentation for Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him, You are like a young lion of the nations, and you are as a whale in the seas: and you came forth with your rivers, and troubled the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.

Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

And they shall lay waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its entrances: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he comes into our land, and when he treads within our borders.

The lion tore in pieces enough for his cubs, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his holes with prey, and his dens with torn flesh.

Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the taking of prey does not cease;

Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they do not leave the bones till the morrow.

Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eats of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain.
