Therefore when you do your giving, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

He has distributed, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever; his horn shall be exalted with honor.

The wicked borrows, and does not pay back: but the righteous shows mercy, and gives.

He that has pity on the poor lends to the LORD; and that which he has given will he pay him back.

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?

Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for you know not what evil shall be upon the earth.

I will send him against a hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a command, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

Is it not to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? when you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you do not hide yourself from your own flesh?

Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall he have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is a hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Put the trumpet to your mouth. He shall come like an eagle against the house of the LORD, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

You hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,

And in the morning, It will be foul weather to day: for the sky is red and cloudy. O you hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky; but can you not discern the signs of the times?

But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why do you put me to the test, you hypocrites?

But all their works they do in order to be seen by men: they make their phylacteries wide, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

And shall cut him in pieces, and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

For truly I say to you, Till heaven and earth pass away, one iota or one dot shall by no means pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Moreover when you fast, do not be, like the hypocrites, of a sad appearance: for they make their faces unsightly, that they may appear to men to fast. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

But when you do your giving, let not your left hand know what your right hand does:

And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.

You hypocrite, first take out the board out of your own eye; and then shall you see clearly to take out the speck out of your brother’s eye.

And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts:

He answered and said to them, Well has Isaiah prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.

But rather give gifts of such things as you have; and, behold, all things are clean for you.

Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

Sell what you have, and give gifts; provide yourselves bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.

You hypocrites, you can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that you do not discern this time?

The Lord then answered him, and said, You hypocrite, does not each one of you on the sabbath loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?

Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;

But woe to you that are rich! for you have received your consolation.

Or how can you say to your brother, Brother, let me pull out the speck that is in your eye, when you yourself do not see the board that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take out the board out of your own eye, and then shall you see clearly to pull out the speck that is in your brother’s eye.

For some of them thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said to him, Buy those things that we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.

I do not receive honor from men.

How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from God only?

He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, who gave many gifts to the people, and prayed to God always.

And said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts are kept in remembrance in the sight of God.

And when he looked at him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said to him, Your prayers and your gifts have come up for a memorial before God.

Then the disciples, everyone according to his ability, determined to send relief to the believers who dwelt in Judea:

Now after many years I came to bring gifts to my nation, and offerings.

Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and deeds of mercy which she did.

Or he that exhorts, in exhortation: he that gives, let him do it with sincerity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

And though I give all my goods to feed the poor, and give my body to be burned, and have not love, it profits me nothing.

Only they desired that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was eager to do.

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have something to give to him that is needy.

Nor from men did we seek glory, neither from you, nor yet from others, when we might have been burdensome, as the apostles of Christ.

That they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give to others, willing to share;

For we have great joy and consolation in your love, because the hearts of the saints are refreshed by you, brother.

But to do good and to share do not forget: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

If anyone speaks, let him speak like a messenger of God; if anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God gives: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

Then he said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, I pray you, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and come back with me, that I may worship the LORD your God.
