In the dark they dig through houses, which they had taken note of for themselves in the daytime: they know not the light.

If I have made gold my hope, or have said to the fine gold, You are my confidence;

Surely every man walks in a vain show: surely they are anxious in vain: he heaps up riches, and knows not who shall gather them.

Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

If a thief be found breaking in, and be struck that he dies, there shall no blood be shed for him.

Riches do not profit in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivers from death.

How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver!

For God gives to a man that is good in his sight wisdom, and knowledge, and joy: but to the sinner he gives toil, to gather and to heap up, that he may give to him that is good before God. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.

Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a sudden end of all those who dwell in the land.

Jesus said to him, If you will be perfect, go and sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.

But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Sell what you have, and give gifts; provide yourselves bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches, neither moth corrupts.

And this know, that if the head of the household had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have let his house be broken into.

Now when Jesus heard these things, he said to him, You still lack one thing: sell all that you have, and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, With what difficulty shall those who have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

Instruct those who are rich in this world, that they be not proud, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy;

Let your conduct be without covetousness; and be content with such things as you have: for he has said, I will never leave you, nor forsake you,
