But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said to them, What do you reason in your hearts?

Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he spoke within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that touches him: for she is a sinner.

They answered him, We are Abraham’s descendents, and were never in bondage to anyone: how can you say, You shall be made free?

I know that you are Abraham’s descendents; but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you.

Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead: whom do you make yourself?

Men and kindred, children of the stock of Abraham, and whoever among you fears God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

Simeon has declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out from them a people for his name.

What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as concerning the flesh, has found?
