So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up, and fell upon him, and slew him: and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness.

Truly I say to you, Among those who are born of women there has not risen a greater than John the Baptist: nevertheless he who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.

And as they departed, Jesus began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

And they said, Some say that you are John the Baptist: some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.

For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you believed him not: but the tax collectors and the harlots believed him: and you, when you had seen it, did not afterward repent, that you might believe him.

Bring forth therefore fruits suitable for repentance:

And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent, and believe the gospel.

As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.

And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Highest: for you shall go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak to the people concerning John, What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken with the wind?

Beginning from the baptism of John, to that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty five years, even since the LORD spoke this word to Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day eighty five years old.

And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lies in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people.
