Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness of which he died. And Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over his face, and said, O my father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof.
And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and tore them in two pieces.
A son honors his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is my honor? and if I be a master, where is my fear? says the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, who despise my name. And you say, How have we despised your name?
If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him?
Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh who corrected us, and we showed them respect: shall we not much more be in subjection to the Father of spirits, and live?
Behold, what manner of love the Father has given us, that we should be called the children of God: therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know him.
