Which of the two did the will of his father? They said to him, The first. Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, That the tax collectors and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Say to them, As I live, says the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will you die, O house of Israel?
And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, They have their reward.
And as Jesus passed away from there, he saw a man, named Matthew, sitting at the place of collecting taxes: and he said to him, Follow me. And he arose, and followed him.
And he said to him, Out of your own mouth will I judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was a severe man, taking up what I did not lay down, and reaping what I did not sow:
Now we know that whatever things the law says, it says to those who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
The Lord is not slow concerning his promise, as some men count slowness; but is longsuffering towards us, not desiring that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
