He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that I will raise for David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Then will I cast away the children of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his descendents to be rulers over the children of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.
In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the broken places thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
In that day shall the LORD defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and he who is feeble among them at that day shall be like David; and the house of David shall be like God, like the angel of the LORD before them.
Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way: When his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.
And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same area, and cried out to him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is greatly distressed with a devil.
And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up immediately out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and coming upon him:
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
For the promise that he should be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his descendents through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.
Now to Abraham and his offspring were the promises made. He did not say, And to offsprings, as of many; but as of one, And to your offspring, which is Christ.
