And they buried him in his own sepulchers, which he had made for himself in the city of David, and laid him in the bed which was filled with sweet odors and various spices prepared by the apothecaries’ art: and they made a very great burning for him.
And being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, as he sat at dinner, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of very precious spikenard; and she broke the box, and poured it on his head.
And they went out quickly, and fled from the sepulcher; for they trembled and were amazed: neither said they any thing to anyone; for they were afraid.
Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came to the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation day, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was a high day,) pleaded with Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.
