Therefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; be careful and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.

And it yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords.

For you deceived in your hearts, when you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare to us, and we will do it.

But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.

And they sent out to him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that you are true, and teach the way of God in truth, neither do you care for any man: for you do not regard the person of men.

Tell us therefore, What do you think? Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

And they sent to him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said to them, Why do you put me to the test? Bring me a penny, that I may see it.

And as soon as he had come, he went immediately to him, and said, Master, master; and kissed him.

Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?

And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.

He that speaks from himself seeks his own glory: but he that seeks his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

Because for this reason you pay taxes also: for they are God’s servants, attending continually to this very thing.

For we are not like many, who corrupt the word of God: but as men of sincerity, but as men from God, in the sight of God we speak in Christ.

For if I make you sorry, who is he then that makes me glad, but the one who is made sorry by me?

Therefore seeing that we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not faint;

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made known to God; and I trust also are made known in your consciences.

Therefore from this time on we know no one according to the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet from now on we know him in this way no more.

For am I now persuading men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I were yet pleasing men, I would not be the servant of Christ.

But from these who seemed to be something, (whatever they were, it makes no difference to me: God accepts no man’s person:) for those who seemed to be something in conference added nothing to me:

You shall not pervert judgment; you shall not favor any person, neither take a bribe: for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous.

But as we were considered by God to be qualified to be put in trust with the gospel, even so we speak; not as pleasing men, but God, who examines our hearts.
