And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his teaching:

And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes.

But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men considered John, that he was a prophet indeed.

And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.

And the Pharisees went out, and immediately took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

For Herod feared John, knowing that he was a just man and holy, and observed him; and when he heard him, he did many things, and heard him gladly.

And he taught daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the chief of the people sought to destroy him,

And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

And the chief priests and the scribes the same hour sought to lay hands on him; and they feared the people: for they perceived that he had spoken this parable against them.

And all bore him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth. And they said, Is not this Joseph’s son?

After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill him.

Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you attempt to kill me?

The officers answered, No man ever spoke like this man.

And as he reasoned concerning righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go your way for now; when I have a convenient season, I will call for you.
