And one of those who stood by drew a sword, and struck a servant of the high priest, and cut off his ear.

When those who were around him saw what would follow, they said to him, Lord, shall we strike with the sword?

And Jesus answered and said, Permit it thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.

Dearly beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, says the Lord.

(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God for the pulling down of strongholds;)
