Then Jesus said to them, Be careful and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.

Then spoke Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

And he instructed them, saying, Be careful, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.

In the meantime, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, to the extent that that they trod one upon another, he began to say to his disciples first of all, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

And he put forth a parable to those who were invited, when he observed how they chose out the chief places; saying to them,

Who devour widows’ houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.

Be kindly affectioned to one another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;

Of whom you also should beware; for he has greatly withstood our words.

I wrote to the church: but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, does not receive us.
