Woe to you, Pharisees! For you love the uppermost seats in the synagogues, and greetings in the markets.
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.
But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the markets, and calling to their friends,
Beware of the scribes, who desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts;
Be kindly affectioned to one another with brotherly love; in honor preferring one another;
Let nothing be done through strife or self glorification; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than themselves.
