You mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields full of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is cast away with contempt, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil.
But the people answered, You shall not go forth: for if we flee away, they will not care about us; neither if half of us die, will they care about us: but now you are worth ten thousand of us: therefore now it is better that you help us from the city.

My net also will I spread upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare: and I will bring him to Babylon to the land of the Chaldeans; yet shall he not see it, though he shall die there.
They also went down into the land of darkness with him to those who are slain with the sword; and those who were his arm, who dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the heathen.
The leaves thereof were fair, and the fruit thereof much, and in it was food for all: the beasts of the field had shadow under it, and the birds of the heaven dwelt in the boughs thereof, and all flesh was fed from it.
And the bramble said to the trees, If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.
Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose donkey have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or from whose hand have I received any bribe to blind my eyes therewith? and I will restore it to you.
And he said to them, The LORD is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that you have not found anything in my hand. And they answered, He is witness.
Behold, this day your eyes have seen how the LORD had delivered you today into my hand in the cave: and some told me to kill you: but my eye spared you; and I said, I will not put forth my hand against my lord; for he is the LORD’S anointed.
And he said to his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the LORD’S anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.
This thing is not good that you have done. As the LORD lives, you are worthy to die, because you have not kept your master, the LORD’S anointed. And now see where the king’s spear is, and the jar of water that was at his pillow.
