It may be that the LORD will look on my affliction, and that the LORD will repay me good for his cursing this day.

For the LORD saw the affliction of Israel, that it was very bitter: for there was not any shut up, nor any left, nor any helper for Israel.

Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the terrible God, who keeps covenant and mercy, let not all the trouble seem little before you, that has come upon us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria to this day.

RESH. Consider my affliction, and deliver me: for I do not forget your law.

Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked plans; so that they do not exalt themselves. Selah.

Look upon my affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.

They gave me also gall for my food; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.

And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry because of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows;

And the people believed: and when they heard that the LORD had visited the children of Israel, and that he had looked upon their affliction, then they bowed their heads and worshiped.

So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of those that were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.

For Jerusalem is ruined, and Judah is fallen: because their tongue and their doings are against the LORD, to provoke the eyes of his glory.

Turn your ear, O LORD, and hear; open your eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who has sent to reproach the living God.

Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? and against whom have you exalted your voice, and lifted up your eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

Because your rage against me, and your tumult, has come up into my ears, therefore will I put my hook in your nose, and my bridle in your lips, and I will turn you back by the way by which you came.

It may be that the LORD your God will hear the words of Rab-shakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the LORD your God has heard: therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.

Speak kindly to Jerusalem, and cry out to her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she has received from the LORD’S hand double for all her sins.

And you said, I shall be a lady for ever: so that you did not take these things to heart, neither did you remember the latter end of it.

These two things have come upon you; who shall be sorry for you? desolation, and destruction, and the famine, and the sword: by whom shall I comfort you?

O thou afflicted, tossed with tempest, and not comforted, behold, I will lay your stones with fair colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires.

I have seen your adulteries, and your neighings, the lewdness of your whoredom, and your abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe to you, O Jerusalem! will you not be made clean? when shall it finally be?

Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

Also in your skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by deep searching, but upon all these.

Make him drunken: for he magnified himself against the LORD: Moab also shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will you do at the end of it?

Call together the archers against Babylon: all you who bend the bow, camp against it round about; let none thereof escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do unto her: for she has been proud against the LORD, against the Holy One of Israel.

Zion spreads out her hands, and there is none to comfort her: the LORD has commanded concerning Jacob, that his adversaries should be round about him: Jerusalem is like a menstruous woman among them.

They have heard that I sigh: there is none to comfort me: all my enemies have heard of my trouble; they are glad that you have done it: you will bring the day that you have proclaimed, and they shall be like me.

What thing shall I take to testify for you? what thing shall I compare to you, O daughter of Jerusalem? what shall I equal to you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? for your broken place is great like the sea: who can heal you?

How the gold has become dim! how the most fine gold has changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out at the head of every street.

Remember, O LORD, what has come upon us: consider, and behold our reproach.

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak encouragingly to her.

This shall they have for their pride, because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of hosts.

And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

And when we cried out unto the LORD God of our fathers, the LORD heard our voice, and looked on our affliction, and our labor, and our oppression:

Were it not that I feared the anger of the enemy, lest their adversaries should behave themselves improperly, and lest they should say, Our hand is high, and the LORD has not done all this.

O that they were wise, that they understood this, that they would consider their latter end!

For the time has come that judgment must begin at the household of God: and if it first begins with us, what shall the end be of those who do not obey the gospel of God?

And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your handmaid, and remember me, and not forget your handmaid, but will give to your handmaid a man child, then I will give him to the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.
