All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty eight cities with their open country.

Cursed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

And the children of Israel gave to the Levites these cities with their open country.

They shall teach Jacob your judgments, and Israel your law: they shall put incense before you, and whole burnt sacrifice upon your altar.

And the children of Israel gave to the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their open country.

So all the cities for the children of Merari by their families, which were remaining of the families of the Levites, were by their lot twelve cities.

These cities were every one with their open country round about them: thus were all these cities.
