But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry: for anger rests in the bosom of fools.

And death shall be chosen rather than life by all the remnant of those who remain of this evil family, who remain in all the places to which I have driven them, says the LORD of hosts.

Then said the LORD, Do you do well to be angry?

And it came to pass, when the sun rose, that God prepared a furious east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, so that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

And if you deal thus with me, kill me, I pray you, out of hand, if I have found favor in your sight; and let me not see my wretchedness.

And the people complained to Moses, and spoke, saying, Would to God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

But I have made use of none of these things: neither have I written these things, that it should be so done to me: for it would be better for me to die, than that anyone should make my boasting of no effect.
