And he said to Abram, Know with certainty that your descendents shall be strangers in a land that is not theirs, and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
For we were slaves; yet our God has not forsaken us in our slavery, but has extended mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia, to give us a reviving, to set up the house of our God, and to repair the desolations thereof, and to give us a wall in Judah and in Jerusalem.
And do not think to say within yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say to you, that God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and do not begin to say within yourselves, We have Abraham as our father: for I say to you, That God is able from these stones to raise up children for Abraham.
And when the LORD raised them up judges, then the LORD was with the judge, and delivered them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for the LORD was sorry because of their groanings because of those who oppressed them and troubled them.
Therefore the anger of the LORD was hot against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of Chushan-rishathaim king of Mesopotamia: and the children of Israel served Chushan-rishathaim eight years.
And the children of Israel cried out to the LORD: for he had nine hundred chariots of iron; and twenty years he mightily oppressed the children of Israel.
