Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat in this way on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.

And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterwards hungry.

And, behold, there arose a powerful wind in the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man has nowhere to lay his head.

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, and his children, and his cattle?

Then he came to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.

There came a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus said to her, Give me a drink.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that you through his poverty might be rich.

Therefore in all things it was necessary for him to be made like his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

For we have not a high priest who cannot be touched with the feeling of our weaknesses; but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.
