And went again into the judgment hall, and said to Jesus, Where are you from? But Jesus gave him no answer.

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he opens not his mouth.

But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said to him, I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.

Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered to him the whole band of soldiers.

Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.

Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves did not go into the judgment hall, so that they would not be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.

Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said to him, Are you the King of the Jews?

Jesus answered him, Do you say this thing of yourself, or did others tell it to you about me?

Pilate therefore said to him, Are you a king then? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this purpose I was born, and for this reason I came into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice.

Then said Pilate to him, Will you not speak to me? Do you not know that I have power to crucify you, and have power to release you?

When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid;

Jesus answered and said to them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you cannot tell where I come from, and where I am going.

And in nothing terrified by your adversaries: which is to them an evident token of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.

Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came to me, and his countenance was like the countenance of an angel of God, greatly to be feared: but I asked him not where he was from, neither did he tell me his name:
