However Jesus spoke of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
He said to them, Depart: for the maid is not dead, but is sleeping. And they laughed him to scorn.
And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeps.
These things said he: and after that he said to them, Our friend Lazarus sleeps; but I go, that I may awaken him out of sleep.
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleeps, he shall do well.
Then said Jesus to them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
